Blog 3-Making Connection between ESE and the Masterplan for ICT in Education
Describe which achievement of the 3 masterplans for ICT in Education are evident in the school/classes that you are attached.
Masterplan 1:Building the foundation
In Jurong Secondary School, teachers are using multimedia resources to support their teaching, (e.g video recording, sound recording). This make lesson becomes more lively, as it’s not just about the subject content in lesson, but also get used with multimedia resources to attract students’ attention. Nowadays, IT is very commonly used, school get used with it to develop their ownership.
Masterplan 2: change and innovation
-Capacity Building
As Jurong Secondary School is a future school, students are given basic knowledge of ICT to strengthen their ICT intergration.
-Experimentation
All Sec 1 students have to participate in “media literacy” .It teaches students to be critical about the media messages nowadays. It has led to students serving the community through the production of videos and developing 21st century IT skills.
-Curriculum And Assessment
E-learning,it takes learning beyond the classroom, students can learn themselves even stay at home. The E-learning programme helps students to cultivate self-displine and be responsible for their self-learning.
Besides of this,in ICT class students were being separated into few groups to do their group discussion and put their brain together in solving difficulties.ICT class also encourage students to use IT equipments while doing their presentation, this kind of collaboration learning. It sounds interesting and the majority of the students very enthusiastic in class.

blog 2-Masterplan for ICT in education
IT is a combination of computer and communication technology. It is the transfer of information from one to another. In 21st century,IT is a major part of Singapore's strategy, it makes Singapore a more competitive nation and ideally the springboard for the market. Therefore it is important for our next generation to get used of IT.
Firstly, the primary importance IT in education is students and teachers can access the various learning multimedia resources. It helps to engage students in learning and also attract students’ attention, with the combination of ICT, students will not feel bored.

Secondly, Students learn best when they are actively involved in the process.
Researchers report that, regardless of the subject matter, students working in small groups tend to learn more of what is taught and retain it longer than when the same content is presented in other instructional formats. Students who work in collaborative groups also appear more satisfied with their classes. (Sources: Beckman, 1990; Chickering and Gamson, 1991; Collier, 1980; Cooper and Associates, 1990; Goodsell, Maher, Tinto, and Associates, 1992; Johnson and Johnson, 1989; Johnson, Johnson, and Smith, 1991; Kohn, 1986; McKeachie, Pintrich, Lin, and Smith, 1986; Slavin, 1980, 1983; Whitman, 1988)

Students are actively involved in class, they working in small groups to discuss the curriculum and assessment and get used of technology, this is one kind of collaboration in teaching. They have to put the brain together in solving difficulties. Actually, students enjoy learning when they experienced it.
In my opinion, ICT has developed students’ 21st century IT skills and build up the moral of self-managing and responsibility among the students.Through the lesson, students need to be helpful and considerate to each member. It helps to realize their true potential and ability, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond their limitations.
As a beginning teacher, using multimedia resource to support teaching and learning it effectively get used in class engage learning. Moreover, the ICT lesson also ready for students to function in the globalize future.
Its a win-win situation for both, teachers and students.

Enhanced School Experience:Classroom Observation of ICT use:
(1) Specific Observations
School Name: Jurong Secondary School
Class:Sec1-1,Sec1-2
Profile of the Class:28students;Chinese Express
Subject:Sec 1 Chinese (express)
What ICT tools are used in lessons?
-Audio System
-Computer
-projector
-video recorder
Describe how ICT is used for teaching and learning in the lesson.
Teacher divides the students into smaller groups for the purpose of discussing their group assessment. The topic of the day is to edit the content of the story of“小王子little prince”. Students are required to perform in groups and further make a video recording for their presentation.
The Pulse studio(picture as shown below) stimulates the real broadcasting environment for the students and on top of that, it provides well and adequate equipments for them to record and perform their presentation.

In my view, it is indeed like a class taking place behind the camera. Students are also advised to get used with the multimedia resources to produce a lively performance (ie:sound effect, powerpoint slide).

From my observation, I can sense that the students are trying in their very own way to express themselves and in the same time, developing their creativity and ability in group discussions. In my opinion, it’s a good opportunity for students to engage and communicate with each other, together building up a team spirit.
It is also because the activity is designed to be a group presentation, students while solving the task, indirectly building up the art of self-management and further enhance their personal responsibility among each other, as the task requires each member to complete their respective duty to achieve success in a whole and not only as an individual.

I am most impressed by the “media literacy” course in Jurong Secondary School which requires all Sec 1 students to participate in this course. The course is unique as it teaches students to be alert and critical about the media messages that they come into contact with daily. A multi disciplinary approach was adopted in the teaching of media literacy and it has proven to lead students in serving the community through the production of videos and developing 21st century skills.
(2)General Observation:
How do teachers in the school responded to the using of ICT for teaching and learning?
My CT, Miss Zoey Oh in her opinion stated: ‘Firstly we need to know what we are going to carry out with this ICT lesson’. She further stressed out that engaging students in learning Chinese Language is important. With the availability of group presentations, students will need to resort to the internet to obtain some information, this appears to be a type of ICT learning. Besides that, teachers can also use multimedia resources to support their teaching and learning process as it makes lessons more interesting and appealing to the students. Miss Zoey also suggested that it will be great if teachers can use internet radio programme to improve the student’s command in Chinese oral communication skills through experiential learning.
My HOD,Mr Tan Chwee Lai stated that Jurong Secondary School actually was the pioneer of using multimedia resource to support teaching and learning.
In his opinion, ICT includes:E-learning online homework, multimedia teaching resource, internet, radio and DVD.
ICT materials may assist teachers to engage students in active learning. Students also may build up collaboration with their group members as they will start to realise the importance of teamwork throughout the presentation. On top of that, the video recording produced might mean something important to them as they appreciate the ICT.
Taking note of that it is vital for students to be involved actively in real experiences as they may gain additional knowledge along the process which they could never discover or learnt from the rigid textbooks.
