Describe how ICT is used for teaching and learning in the lesson.
Teacher divides the students into smaller groups for the purpose of discussing their group assessment. The topic of the day is to edit the content of the story of“小王子little prince”. Students are required to perform in groups and further make a video recording for their presentation.
The Pulse studio(picture as shown below) stimulates the real broadcasting environment for the students and on top of that, it provides well and adequate equipments for them to record and perform their presentation.
In my view, it is indeed like a class taking place behind the camera. Students are also advised to get used with the multimedia resources to produce a lively performance (ie:sound effect, powerpoint slide).

From my observation, I can sense that the students are trying in their very own way to express themselves and in the same time, developing their creativity and ability in group discussions. In my opinion, it’s a good opportunity for students to engage and communicate with each other, together building up a team spirit.
It is also because the activity is designed to be a group presentation, students while solving the task, indirectly building up the art of self-management and further enhance their personal responsibility among each other, as the task requires each member to complete their respective duty to achieve success in a whole and not only as an individual.
I am most impressed by the “media literacy” course in Jurong Secondary School which requires all Sec 1 students to participate in this course. The course is unique as it teaches students to be alert and critical about the media messages that they come into contact with daily. A multi disciplinary approach was adopted in the teaching of media literacy and it has proven to lead students in serving the community through the production of videos and developing 21st century skills.
(2)General Observation:
How do teachers in the school responded to the using of ICT for teaching and learning?
My CT, Miss Zoey Oh in her opinion stated: ‘Firstly we need to know what we are going to carry out with this ICT lesson’. She further stressed out that engaging students in learning Chinese Language is important. With the availability of group presentations, students will need to resort to the internet to obtain some information, this appears to be a type of ICT learning. Besides that, teachers can also use multimedia resources to support their teaching and learning process as it makes lessons more interesting and appealing to the students. Miss Zoey also suggested that it will be great if teachers can use internet radio programme to improve the student’s command in Chinese oral communication skills through experiential learning.
My HOD,Mr Tan Chwee Lai stated that Jurong Secondary School actually was the pioneer of using multimedia resource to support teaching and learning.
In his opinion, ICT includes:E-learning online homework, multimedia teaching resource, internet, radio and DVD.
ICT materials may assist teachers to engage students in active learning. Students also may build up collaboration with their group members as they will start to realise the importance of teamwork throughout the presentation. On top of that, the video recording produced might mean something important to them as they appreciate the ICT.
Taking note of that it is vital for students to be involved actively in real experiences as they may gain additional knowledge along the process which they could never discover or learnt from the rigid textbooks.
